In an excellent article by Kevin O’Reilly, American Medical News reports on the 31% decline in industry funding of CME since 2007. According to 2010 financial figures released by the ACCME, physicians and hospitals now pay for 51% of all CME, with exhibit and advertising income and direct commercial support making up the balance. The article includes some nice charts summarizing these changes in funding, as well as interviews with stakeholders such as Thomas Sullivan, George Mejicano, and even yours truly, Daniel Carlat.
